News consumption was on the rise

An MTM study reported that Canadian news TV channels reached 45% more viewers in spring 2020 (over fall 2019). The consumption of news sites also considerably increased during the pandemic—visits on these websites jumped by 41% over the same period.
ICI RDI saw its viewership jump by 60% between fall 2019 and spring 2020.
The Téléjournal newscasts on ICI TÉLÉ also made audience gains (+31%).
Our digital platforms followed the same trend. During the first wave of COVID-19, Radio-Canada.ca (site and apps) recorded all-time highs during the week of March 23, 2020: 21 million visits and 48.8 million page views.
