Dear Partners,
I hope you are taking care of yourselves and your loved ones during this time. As you heard last night, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC), backed by their Athletes’ Commissions, National Sports Organizations and the Government of Canada, announced that they will not be sending Canadian teams to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the summer of 2020, due to COVID-19 risks. Our thoughts are with the athlete community, who have worked tirelessly to get to this point, and we know are devastated by this situation.
CBC/Radio-Canada is proud to be Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic network and is committed to bringing Canadians coverage of the Tokyo Olympic Games whenever they occur.
Like every organization around the world, we are constantly monitoring the daily developments that emerge with COVID-19 and the impact this virus is having on so many international events, including, most notably, the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games.
Whatever decision the IOC takes regarding these Games, CBC/Radio-Canada is committed to ensuring that our employees are working in a safe and healthy environment. We are also committed to you, our partners, and will work to deliver a Games experience all Canadians can participate in and enjoy. We know these are unprecedented times, and we will be flexible in our delivery of the agreed upon assets, based on the scenario of how and when the Games are presented. We thank you for your continued support.
Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. In the meantime, please be safe.
Thanks,
Donald Lizotte, General Manager & Chief Revenue Officer, and Joe Gottfried, Director Sales & Marketing, Sports & Olympics
